Fred J. Heumann is an internationally-respected worship leader, speaker, and teacher. He has four decades of diverse experience—from the Australian outback to European cathedrals, from leading small group worship to producing major international events in over 50 nations. He is a lead worshipper and singer who carries a deep understanding of the theological and practical aspects of leading and planning corporate worship from highly liturgical services to charismatic renewal.
Fred has worked alongside the music industry for many years. He has been a trusted consultant and contributor for major publishing companies like Thankyou Music/Kingsway Worship, Worship Together, Word Music, LifeWay Worship, in:ciite Media, Integrity Music, Sovereign Grace Music, Don Moen Company, Media Complete, and Lillenas Publishing.
He helped develop the MORE SONGS FOR PRAISE AND WORSHIP worship planner series and the materials for wordmusicnow.com at Word, and was a content curator for the launch of LifeWay Hymnal / lifewayworship.com, assisting in choosing today’s worship songs for both the online and print hymnals. He played a significant role in introducing the current wave of British worship music here, bringing the first WorshipTogether conferences to the US alongside Kingsway/Thankyou Music in 1997-1998.
Fred is passionate about technology and how it can be a strong asset to worship leader/planners—you won’t see him anywhere without his MacBook Pro and his iPhone—and has worked on developing several digital or online products. He is an ordained minister who also has served 7 very different churches as part-time, full-time or volunteer worship leader, and taught and planned Hispanic worship seminars across Latin America and in the US. He loves history and has found that most trips into his office are actually archeological digs… And believe it or not, he also loves collecting old hymnals. It’s amazing how many of those old songs didn’t last either!
Fred has shared the Gospel with over 1 million students live with his team Wings of Light and served as a church worship pastor, missionary evangelist, and on the World Leadership Team for Youth for Christ International. He also served as worship leader at Belmont Church, Nashville over ten years.
He directs MusicWorks International, offering training, teaching and consulting in music and missions, and also has a new initiative called theworshipservice.com—serving those in the service of worship. His first book called magnify! is a resource book, containing 105 song-based modern worship devotionals for lead worshippers and their teams. With theworshipservice.com, he also partnered with in:ciite Media in making available the songs from 20 different local church worship recording projects to other churches across the USA.
He is part of the worldwide Lausanne Movement for world evangelization as a Lausanne Arts Catalyst, helping to train in and stimulate the use of music and arts in global evangelism, with a current special focus on the nation of Ukraine. He recently earned the Master of Worship Studies (M.W.S.) degree from IWS in Orange Park, Florida. He lives in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife Judie, while their son Joel, a graduate of Belmont University, is an artist and songwriter in Nashville.
